The Magic of the Festive Season in San Martino di Castrozza

In December, San Martino di Castrozza lights up with magic: the Siror Christmas Market, the Krampus Night and the Piolets d’Or turn the Dolomites into a journey through tradition, emotions and wonder.

There’s a moment in the mountains when everything slows down.
Snow falls quietly, scents grow richer, and warm lights soften the narrow village streets. Your heart begins to follow the gentle rhythm of simple things once again. It’s the moment when the Festive Season turns into magic, tradition and memory — and we invite you to pause, breathe, and let yourself be enchanted.

In San Martino di Castrozza and its surroundings, this spell comes alive every December, transforming the high peaks into a world suspended between fairy tale and reality.

Here, Christmas is not just a celebration: it’s an experience that embraces you, surprises you, and deserves to be lived fully.

Here, winter is more than snow and silence. Let it surprise you: what lies ahead is a journey of true emotions, traditions to rediscover, and stories that remind you of the wonder we often forget.

We’ll guide you through enchanting markets, legendary creatures, and the great celebration of world alpinism.

From 30 November — let the magic begin: the Siror Christmas Market

Just minutes from San Martino, the small village of Siror dresses up for the season and glows with a magic that feels straight out of a storybook. From 30 November until Epiphany, every lane, every doorstep, every moment becomes Christmas.

The Siror Market — the oldest in Trentino — is more than a charming row of wooden stalls. It’s a sensory journey: the scent of cinnamon blending with freshly baked strudel, warm fritters in your hands, brazedel and zelten carrying the taste of tradition, artisans carving wood as they did long ago… everything invites you to slow down and enjoy the moment.

The Siror Market isn’t visited — it’s lived.

6 December — the Krampus arrive: a night when legends walk among us

If you love stories that stir the heart, the Krampus tradition is unmissable. On 6 December in Fiera di Primiero, the streets fill with ancient energy: hand-carved masks, great horns, heavy furs, clattering chains, the echo of cowbells announcing the arrival of these fearsome Alpine creatures.

The Krampus parade through the crowd with a mix of fear, fascination and mystery — an experience like no other: intense, primal, and deeply authentic. One of those traditions that stays with you and reveals the ancestral soul of the mountains.

And when the noise fades, what remains is the quiet magic of an ancient legend that lingers in your heart.

9–12 December — Piolets d’Or: San Martino becomes the world capital of alpinism

If the mountains are more to you than a landscape — if they are something to explore, breathe and respect — the international Piolets d’Or is an event you cannot miss.

From 9 to 12 December, San Martino di Castrozza welcomes the world’s finest alpinists to celebrate excellence, courage, technique and the true art of mountaineering. “Those who do not know San Martino di Castrozza do not know the Dolomites,” wrote Günther Langes — and here, under the Pale glowing pink at sunset, this prestigious award comes to life.

Talks, stories, encounters and award moments transform the village into a place where passion for the mountains becomes a shared language.

It’s more than an event: it’s an invitation to see the Dolomites with new eyes.
